25 June 1966 In France, a Dassault Mirage IIIB, modified to simultate the flying characteristics of Concorde, made its first flight 25 June 1969 Westward Airways inaugurated a shuttle service between London’s Gatwick and Heathrow Airports, operated by a Britten-Norman Islander. 25 June 1981 The UK Defence Secretary announced that the government intended to procure 60 McDonnell Douglas AV-8Bs for service with the RAF under the designation Harrier GR.Mk 5. 25 June 1997 The Russian space station Mir and its re-supply craft collided in orbit, forcing the Mir astronauts to shut down most of the spacecraft's systems.
